Laboratory Study - Probiotic Infection Prevention E. Coli

16TH September 2022

This lab study explored whether probiotic bacteria could successfully inhibit Escherichia coli (E. coli) – a common pathogen responsible for infections and contamination. The results were remarkable: probiotic bacteria eliminated 100% of E. coli colonies in both test samples.

Conducted by Probiotic Group’s laboratory team, the study involved blending a plant-based probiotic microbial cocktail with diatoms (naturally occurring algae often found in contaminated domestic water). The mixture was applied to film plates containing E. coli bacteria.

In two separate tests – one with 140 colonies and another with 320 colonies – the probiotics eradicated every single E. coli colony within 24 hours of incubation at 37°C. Even when the probiotic dose was smaller than the diatom sample, the beneficial bacteria still outcompeted and removed the harmful ones.

This natural, mechanical process is not only chemical-free and environmentally safe, it also helps combat antimicrobial resistance – an increasingly serious global health concern.

The findings support the broader use of probiotic-based cleaning and health products as an effective way to reduce infection risk, especially in homes, pet care settings, and professional environments where hygiene is critical.
