Probiotics Reduce Waste Water Hydrocarbons Below Required Levels

Probiotics Reduce Waste Water Hydrocarbons Below Required Levels

Sept 16 2024

A study in Luxembourg tested the effectiveness of TERRAA+ Probiotic Hydrocarbon Reducer (since re-named Provilan Earth Hydrocarbon Reducer) in managing contaminated wastewater sludge. The Probiotic Hydrocarbon Reducer was applied to sludge samples in both laboratory and real-life conditions.

After just 3 days in the lab, Polycyclic Aromatic Hydrocarbons (PAH) levels reduced to 17.3 mg/kg, and sludge volume decreased by 30%. After 21 days at Sidero’s wastewater treatment plant, PAH levels further decreased to 30.5 mg/kg. Fifteen days later, PAH levels dropped to 8.3 mg/kg - a huge 90% reduction.

This probiotic bioremediation process successfully cleaned the sludge, making it suitable for use as farm fertiliser, without the need for incineration, and providing significant financial and ecological benefits.
